Like I said before these are just considerations, so ideas that I remember not having or forgetting to get for school. It’s mostly a trial and error effect because, in college, professors will not tell you what you need, only what books they will be using. You will have to think for yourself and use the knowledge and skills you learned through your years of schooling to figure out what will work best for you.
How do I figure out what school supplies I need?
The first thing I suggest doing is making a list of classes you will be taking. For example, I’m back in college for an AS in Business. So, classes would be Financial Accounting, Elementary Probability & Statistics, Human Relations, and Spreadsheet 2. For each one of these classes, I’m going to need different things:
- Financial Accounting- Calculator, notebook, Textbook
- Elementary probability and statistics- Notebook, ruler, glue, colored pencils, highlighters, calculator, glue stick
- Spreadsheet 2- Computer with Exel
- Human Relations- Notebook
The things I need as I stated before wasnt told to me. I just thought about what the class is about and what items we might be using. Like if you’re taking any class you know you will need a notebook and a pen or pencil. Dont ever show up to a class without those, I dont even care if it’s the first day of school always bring the basics.
Do I need a backpack for college?
To answer this question we have to know where your classes will be located. Are they on campus, off campus or hybrid classes?
- Campus- If you have to go to the school and bring all your stuff with you, yes having a backpack would be a great idea. This isn’t like middle school or high school where you could drop stuff off at a locker. It’s much easier having everything with you for that day of classes.
- Off-campus- This is for people who take online classes or Zoom type of classes. For classes like things, you dont need a backpack at all since you’re just staying at home.
- Hybrid classes- For this type of schedule I would get a backpack because you will be attending on-campus classes. I would consider the size or price of the backpack though. I wouldn’t get a backpack that costs over $60. Only because you’re only going to be using it for a little bit of time and that’s only when you’re going to the campus.
Should I get a laptop or iPad for school?
You need both of them! Dont let know one tell you otherwise. But there are pros and cons to what brand/type you might want to get. So let’s talk about it:
Laptop: There is going to be a huge number of people who want a MacBook, i know they look amazing, they’re trendy and you would be able to connect to all your devices… I’m aware. From an educational point and how everything at the school and how professors’ tech is going to be through Windows software. For example: earlier I mentioned some classes I could be taking well one of them was Spreadsheets 2… well I have already taken and passed that class. It was an online class and everyone who had MacBooks let me tell you had a difficult time (also the Levo laptop but I have no clue about that brand) and the same for some other classes I have taken. It comes down to the professor’s instructions and if you are okay with taking the time to learn the macOS way through instructions more prompts to you.
I would highly suggest an HP. You can get the space you need and dont have to worry about running out.
Ipad: Worth every penny! I own an iPad Air (5th Gen). If you dont want to get the newer ones or this one the iPad 10th gen. Is still amazing and it is cheaper (my daughter owns that one). These two styles do work with different pencils so you will have to get one that works for what iPad you pick. Amazon does have an amazing one that works just as great as an apple pencil.
What do I use my iPad for?
I’m a huge GoodNotes person and this is what I now take notes with/on. It saves a lot of paper since I was a high paper and notebook person. I also have an amazing planner I use here too. But for school, this is the most easy, transportable device that not distracting to take to class. It’s a paper saver and the easiest way to stay organized because everything is in one place. I even have my online schooling app downloaded there and can do and turn in work. I wouldn’t write a paper on it, that’s why you need a laptop too.
